(A) All fire and life safety signage and labeling shall be regularly maintained and legible including the items from this section.
(B) The door that provides access to the fire alarm control panel location shall be marked ‘FACP’ in minimum four-inch Arabic letters, with a 3/8-inch stroke and of contrasting color to the door. Fire command rooms that contain fire alarm and sprinkler controls shall be labeled “FACP/ FIRE SPRINKLER ROOM”.
(C) The door to rooms that are dedicated to sprinkler systems only shall be labeled on the exterior of the door in four-inch minimum Arabic letters of contrasting color that reads “FIRE SPRINKLER ROOM”.
(D) Fire Department connection (FDC) signs shall be required and will be mounted on the exterior wall above the hose connection. The sign shall have a red background and white reflective Arabic lettering six inches in height that reads “FDC”. It shall be mounted at a height between eight to ten feet from the centerline on FDC inlet.
(E) A sign shall be placed on the exterior wall directly above each FDC for sprinkler, standpipe or combination systems that indicates the GPM @ PSI required for the system that it is connected to.
(F) All exterior doors behind which any standpipe/hose valve is located shall be marked with Arabic letters not less than four inches in height, 3/8-inch stroke that reads "FIRE DEPARTMENT HOSE VALVE" or other terminology as approved by the Fire Marshal.
(G) Building door identification numbers shall be provided on commercial and industrial buildings to facilitate emergency response. Each door shall have a number starting with the main entrance as door number “1”. Subsequent doors should be numbered sequentially in a clockwise order, to the left of the first door and around the building. Door numbers shall be placed at the top right of the door as you face the door. Door numbers shall be affixed on the inside and outside of the door. Numbers on the inside of the door shall match the number on the exterior. Numbers shall be Arabic style six-inch in height and 1/2-inch stroke, reflective material and in contrasting color to the door.
(H) Exit and egress stairwells doors shall be clearly identified with a sign adjacent to the door. It shall include the following information on every level including basements and roof access doors.
(1) The signs shall be a minimum size of 18 inches by 12 inches.
(2) The top of the signs shall be located five feet above the floor landing in a position that is readily visible when the doors are in the open and closed positions.
(3) The number on the sign designating the floor level shall be not less than five inches in height and located in the center of the sign.
(4) Other lettering and numbers on the sign shall be not less than one inch in height.
(5) Information on the sign shall include:
(a) Floor level;
(b) Terminus of the top and bottom of the exit stairway and/or ramp;
(c) The location name of the stairwell or ramp;
(d) The story of the exit discharge; and
(e) The availability of roof access from the stairway or ramp for the Fire Department.
(6) Characters and their background shall have a non-glare finish. Characters shall contrast with their background.
(7) Signs shall be installed in the interior exit stairways and ramps of buildings.
