The Committee shall further be and hereby is charged with the development of a Sustainability Challenge Program, which shall take the form of a voluntary self-certification program to be offered by the village to help village businesses, not for profit organizations and other community constituencies to achieve and implement model standards of conservation and sustainability practices. Certification will involve self evaluation of current practices and documentation of the implementation of conservation and sustainability practices, and is anticipated to involve annual recognition of village businesses, not for profit organizations and other community constituencies for their implementation of conservation and sustainability practices during the preceding year, in categories that may include water use, waste generation/recycling, energy, transportation and purchasing. The Sustainability Challenge Program shall be presented to and approved by action of the Village Board prior to formal implementation.
