(A) Governmental signs. Signs used exclusively for the posting or display of official notices by a public agency or official, or by a person giving legal notice, and signs erected or maintained by a public agency or official, or required by law to be displayed by a public utility for directional warning or informational purposes.
(B) Commercial real estate property for sale/rent. Signs placed on site to advertise the property on premises. The size of the sign shall not exceed 16 square foot, and the top of the sign be no higher than eight (8) foot above the ground,
(C) Residential real estate property for sale/rent. Signs placed on site to advertise the property on premises. The size of any sign shall not exceed eight square foot, and the top of the sign be no higher than six foot above the ground, and not illuminated. Up to two auxiliary signs related to an existing residential property for sale sign may be placed on nearby streets to identify directions to a property, this includes signs for ‘Open House’ events.
(D) Identification/resident name. Sign identifying resident name(s) and number and street. Size of sign should not exceed two square foot, and on premises.
(E) No trespassing/private drive signs. Size of sign shall not exceed two square foot, and on premises, and not illuminated.
(F) Residential garage/tag/yard sales. Signs advertising residential sales of personal items. Size of sign shall not exceed six square feet, not illuminated, and shall not be allowed for greater than 72 hours.
(G) Residential contractor service signs. Signs identifying work being done at a premise by a contractor shall not exceed eight square feet in size, not illuminated, only on premise and shall be displayed while work is in progress and for up to 72 hours after work is complete. At no time may sign be displayed for greater than 14 days.
(H) Non-profit (schools, charitable, religious) signs. Small temporary signs related to local schools, churches, or charities may post small signs denoting messages about items of local interest, such as student achievement, teacher recognition, church themes, charity recognition, shall not be greater than eight square feet in size, placed on private property. No direct or indirect illumination is permitted.
(I) Non-profit (school, charitable, religious) Event signs. Temporary signs denoting events open to the public advertising events, no greater than 20 square feet in size, may be posted on the premises where the event will be held, and limited to 30 days prior to event and removed within seven days after the event. No direct or indirect illumination is permitted.
(J) Interior glass mounted signs. Signs may be used by retail, restaurant, or other businesses to provide hours, whether open/closed, or name of business/owner. Signs may be illuminated either directly or indirectly, and shall not exceed eight square feet in size, and in total signs may not exceed 25% of the total window size of the business.
(K) Replacement/repair of existing signs. Signs replacing existing signs of the same type, shape, illumination, size, height and location as the sign being replaced/removed shall not be considered a new sign, and not require a permit.
(L) Campaign/election signs. shall apply to signs promoting a candidate for office, referendums or issues appearing on a ballot during an election. It is the intent of the village to follow Illinois law regarding campaign signs. Persons responsible for the sign(s) should ensure those signs follow the current state laws regarding any signs posted, and the size and area of the sign is consistent with zoning for where the sign is placed.
(M) Business signs of temporary or permanent basis are not defined in this section.
(N) Questions regarding those signs which may be permissible should be directed to the Village Manager, in writing, for clarification.
