§ 114.001 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   CERTIFICATE. Certificate of public convenience and necessity issued by the board licensing the operation of a taxicab.
   DRIVER. Any person who drives a taxicab.
   OWNER. Any person to whom a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the operation of a taxicab has been issued.
   STREET. Any street, alley, avenue or highway within the city limits.
   TAXICAB. Any motor vehicle seating six or fewer passengers and the driver operating upon any street, on call or demand, accepting or soliciting passengers indiscriminately for hire between such points along such streets or highways as may be directed by the passenger or passengers, so being transported.
   TAXICAB DRIVER’S PERMIT. A taxicab driver’s permit granted to a driver, as provided in this chapter.
   TAXIMETER. A machine adopted automatically to calculate at a predetermined rate and to register the charge for hire of a taxicab, and such charges shall be indicated by means of figures.
