No person shall operate a motor vehicle upon any public street within the control of the village of Riverwoods, including Portwine Road (north of Meredith Drive and south of Deerfield Road) and Saunders Road, having a weight in excess of six (6) tons per axle, except that the police chief or his designee may authorize a temporary permit for local deliveries when in his judgment the loads are of a nondivisible nature and delivery by other means is not practical. The weight limit for the portion of Portwine Road north of Lake Cook Road and south of Meredith Drive shall be eight (8) tons per axle, provided that the gross weight of the vehicle does not exceed sixty four thousand (64,000) pounds.
