§ 33.036 DUTIES OF THE DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE.
   The Deputy Chief of Police shall have the following duties and responsibilities, which may be further detailed by the Chief of Police in a general order:
   (A)   Assist with managing and supervising Sergeants and police officers in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including but not limited to training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recommending rewards and disciplinary actions; disciplining personnel as needed; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
   (B)   Assuming command of the Police Department in the absence of the Chief.
   (C)   Assisting the Chief in the development, administration, coordination, and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, programs, and activities, and monitoring the Sergeant’s and police officer’s compliance therewith;
   (D)   Representing the Police Chief, as necessary, at meetings, conferences and other public functions;
   (E)   Assist with conducting background checks and interviewing candidates for full and part-time positions;
   (F)   Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
