8-3-4: WIDTH; SLOPE; THICKNESS:
All public sidewalks and sidewalks within public parkways or other public areas shall be five feet (5') in width (unless connecting walks are wider, in which event new sidewalks shall be the same width as existing and connecting walks) and the upper surface shall slope at the rate of one-fourth inch (1/4") per foot from the inside to the outside. Sidewalks on private property may be less than five feet (5'), but not less than two and one-half feet (21/2') in width, and such sidewalks when extended in the front yard shall extend to and connect onto public sidewalks in the adjacent parkway, if in existence, and if not the private sidewalks shall end at the front lot line of the property in question; provided that the village manager may grant a permit for extending sidewalks to the curb line in front of business or private property whenever, in his judgment, such extension is desirable or necessary. That portion of concrete sidewalk which crosses a driveway shall be a minimum six inches (6") in thickness except that in commercial areas such sidewalk shall be a minimum of seven inches (7") in thickness. All other sidewalks on public land shall be a minimum of five inches (5") in thickness and portions of sidewalk on private property shall be a minimum of four inches (4") in thickness.
