8-1-9: DISCONNECTION OF ABANDONED SERVICE LINES:
In the event any service line that is or has been delivering water to any building, house or area is abandoned as specified below, it shall be the responsibility of the owner thereof to disconnect the service line from the water main and to cap the corporation stop at the expense of said owner. The disconnection must be inspected and approved by the public works department before any permit for demolition is issued. On sites where no demolition is occurring the disconnection must be inspected and approved before a building permit is issued. If UDOT requirements prevent the disconnection at the current time, the owner shall provide a bond, that is approved by Riverdale City, in an amount to cover the costs associated with the disconnection. The owner shall complete the work within six (6) months of providing the bond. If the owner fails to complete the work within six (6) months Riverdale City will use the bond to complete the work. Any additional cost related to the disconnection of the service that exceeds the bond amount shall be charged to the owner.
   A.   Water service lines shall be considered abandoned if:
      1.   There has been no water billed though the meter for the previous twelve (12) months.
      2.   The structure or area for which the service supplied water is being demolished or redeveloped.
   B.   Continued Use: Existing water service lines may be used with new construction upon inspection and approval of the Public Works Director or his designee. The service must be the correct size for the new development and meet the current Riverdale City Public Works Standards. (Ord. 618, 6-17-2003; amd. Ord. 974, 11-7-2023)
