(A) The bottom of the pipe trench shall be smooth and free of rocks or other hard objects which would cause a bridge in the pipe support.
(B) The barrel of the pipe should be directly on the bottom of the trench and the trench excavated a few additional inches in depth at the joints of the pipe if a flat bottom trench is permissible. The new main should be back-filled with clean fill only.
(C) All bends, terminal points, and extended appendages, not anchored positively to the pipe line, should be adequately blocked since pressures tend to “blow-off” non-anchored ending points.
(D) Blowoff valves in low areas and on the ends of pipes shall be provided for cleaning of a main by flushing.
(E) Prior to cover-up of the main, inspection of the work must be made by the Water Department Superintendent.
