§ 156.554 CERTAIN IDENTIFICATION SIGNS.
   (A)   Directional - off-premises signs. The purpose of this section is to prevent the uncontrolled use of off-premises signs so as to promote the health, safety and general welfare of those persons using the public rights-of-way. These regulations are intended to preserve the overall landscape quality of the county while allowing the reasonable use of signs to inform the traveling public. This is accomplished through the application of standards for size, illumination and separation.
      (1)   Sign shall contain only name, emblem and arrow;
      (2)   Permit shall be required;
      (3)   Not permitted in residence districts;
      (4)   Lighting shall not be permitted;
      (5)   Maximum of two signs per business use;
      (6)   Zero setback from front property line;
      (7)   Setback of 20 feet from side and rear property lines;
      (8)   Vision clearance on corner lots or intersection visibility shall be observed;
      (9)   Maximum height is six feet (street grade to top of sign);
      (10)   Maximum of 16 square feet when abutting arterial thoroughfare. Permitted only on arterial streets; and
      (11)   Width shall not exceed four feet.
   (B)   The following provisions shall apply to residential uses in any zone district.
      (1)   Two sign structures identifying and/or providing information regarding a residential subdivision or project area shall be permitted for each main entrance to such residential area.
      (2)   Said sign shall not exceed 64 square feet in surface area, and may be illuminated, but not flashing or animated.
      (3)   Said sign shall indicate only the name and address of the building or use, the name and address of the management thereof, or associated information, but not including permanent promotional information.
      (4)   Provision for maintenance shall be made for permanent residential identification signs in platted subdivisions. Said sign shall be constructed of ornamental metal, stone, masonry or other permanent material.
   (C)   The following provisions shall apply to special exception uses.
      (1)   One identification sign not exceeding 64 square feet in surface area shall be permitted for each street frontage adjoining any residential property; provided, however, for each 200 feet of additional street frontage, one additional such sign shall be permitted, not to exceed a total number of four; provided, further, when not adjoining residential property such sign surface area may be increased to a maximum of 128 square feet.
      (2)   Said sign may be illuminated, but not flashing or animated.
      (3)   Said sign shall indicate only the name and address of the building or use, conditions of operation and associated information, but not including permanent promotional information.
