139.01 AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT.
   (a)   There is created pursuant to Ohio R.C. 737.161 within the Village Police Department an Auxiliary Police Unit, the members of which, not to exceed five, shall be appointed by the Mayor.
   (b)   Auxiliary police officers shall serve so long as the Mayor may direct, or until a resignation submitted by any such member is accepted by the Mayor.
   (c)   Persons appointed to the Auxiliary Police Unit shall be a minimum of twenty years of age and shall have a valid Ohio Peace Officers Training Certificate. Persons who have not actively served as a full-time, part-time, or auxiliary officer of this Village within a period two years prior to appointment as an auxiliary officer, shall serve a probationary period of six months.
   (d)   While on duty, auxiliary police officers shall carry a weapon as authorized by Police Department rules, policies and procedures and shall have the same duties and powers of full-time officers including full arrest powers. Auxiliary police officers shall be subject to, be knowledgeable of, and at all times act in compliance with the Police Department rules, policies and procedures.
   (e)   Auxiliary police officers shall be required to volunteer a minimum of sixteen hours per month. Volunteer hours shall be scheduled with approval of the Police Chief. In the event personal circumstances make the minimum volunteer hours impractical for any given month, in whole or in part, the unworked required minimum volunteer hours may be carried over to the next month at the discretion of the Police Chief. Failure to work the required minimum volunteer hours, except as set forth herein, shall be cause for removal.
   (f)   Persons appointed as auxiliary police officers shall receive no compensation, except that Council may provide for a uniform allowance for auxiliary police officers.
