The City Police Department is authorized to assess a $5 fee for checking vehicle identification numbers, as allowed by I.C. 9-1-2-2(1). The proceeds of the inspection fee shall be deposited in a special vehicle inspection fund for which appropriations may be made for law enforcement purposes.
