141.25 CORRECTION OFFICER.
   (a)   The position of Correction Officer is hereby established. The duties of Correction Officer shall be prescribed by the Mayor and, by delegation thereto, by the Chief of Police. A Correction Officer shall be appointed by the Mayor upon the recommendation of the Chief of Police. A Correction Officer shall receive compensation and benefits as provided in this chapter and the comprehensive wage ordinance of the City. A Correction Officer shall serve a probationary period of one year.
   (b)   The Correction Officer’s primary duties shall involve the protection of persons and property and securing and protecting prisoners. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
      (1)   Booking and processing of arrested persons;
      (2)   Delivering meals to inmates;
      (3)   Administering to the basic comfort needs of inmates and securing medical attention for inmates, if warranted;
      (4)   Ensuring that inmates make all required court appearances, either in person or via video arraignment;
      (5)   Inspecting the jail facility and all equipment and properly repairing or reporting problems;
      (6)   Maintaining supplies of all necessary items required for the safe and efficient operation of the jail facility;
      (7)   Ensuring and maintaining the cleanliness of the jail facility;
      (8)   Transporting inmates to and from facilities or assisting with prisoner pick- ups;
      (9)   Preparing for and conducting annual jail inspections; and
      (10)   Relieving dispatchers for breaks.
   (c)   When not performing jail-related duties, the Correction Officer shall assist the uniform division and the Detective Bureau at the direction of the Detective Bureau Commander or the officer in charge in the Bureau. These duties shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
      (1)   Delivering documents to the court;
      (2)   Assisting as a court officer;
      (3)   Transporting and delivering evidence to and from the appropriate crime laboratories;
      (4)   Taking of in-station/walk-in reports;
      (5)   Picking up and/or dropping off City vehicles for service and/or repairs;
      (6)   Other duties as directed and consistent with the Division of Police mission statement.
