1513.02 RESIDENTIAL CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR REQUIREMENTS.
   (a)    Prior to the issuance of an occupancy permit by the City, carbon monoxide alarms must be installed in any residential building which is equipped with a fuel-fired furnace, boiler, dryer, water heater, stove, range, or other such appliances. A carbon monoxide alarm shall be installed according to the manufacturer's recommendations pertaining to the number of alarms required in a particular unit, location of alarms, and all other recommendations. All carbon monoxide alarms installed pursuant to this section shall be listed with Underwriter's Laboratories, shall be 110 volt power models, and shall be installed by the builder, contractor, or other person responsible for the construction, remodeling, renovation, or occupancy of the structure.
   (b)    In newly-constructed one-family and two-family residential structures equipped with fuel-fired furnaces, boilers, dryers, water heaters, stoves, ranges or other such appliances, carbon monoxide alarms shall be installed with at least one alarm per floor level, including the basement level. In any such residential unit, there shall be at least one alarm located in the main sleeping area of the dwelling and at least one alarm located in the main utility area of the dwelling which contains the fuel-fired components of the heating and/or water heater systems of the dwelling.
