All police officers, except the Chief, shall wear uniforms as shall be provided by the town and shall keep such uniforms in a neat and clean condition, and shall surrender all uniforms and equipment upon leaving the police service of the town if the uniforms and equipment were furnished by the town. The Chief may wear a uniform provided by the town, if he or she so desires.
