(a) The function of the rescue squad, while in performance of rescue work, shall be considered within the scope and duties of the firemen operating thereunder.
(b) All members of the Division of Fire working on the rescue squad shall be paid the same as firemen and shall be considered on active duty while so operating the rescue vehicle, and any matters pertaining to the rescue operation shall be considered within the scope of their duties and responsibilities as firemen.
