SECTION 10.01 ORGANIZATION.
   There shall be a Board of Zoning Appeals which shall consist of five (5) regular members and two (2) alternate members who shall be electors of the Municipality not holding other municipal office or employment, to be appointed for terms of five (5) years, or removed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by the affirmative vote of a majority of the members elected or appointed to Council. The terms of the members of the Board of Zoning Appeals shall be staggered so that the term for one (1) member shall expire annually on each December 31st. Thereafter, a member shall be appointed to a new five (5) year term to begin on January 1st. A vacancy occurring during the term of any member shall be filled for the unexpired term in the manner authorized for an original appointment.
   Alternate members of the Board of Zoning Appeals shall be in addition to the regular members and may substitute for regular members who are unable to attend a meeting or hearing of the Board. Alternative members shall only be entitled to participate and vote as members when they substitute for regular members who are unable to attend a meeting or hearing of the Board.
   All members of the Board shall serve without compensation unless otherwise provided by ordinance of Council. (Approved by voters November 6, 1990; November 3, 2020.)
