10-15-9: HEIGHT LIMITATIONS; MEASUREMENT AND EXCEPTIONS:
   A.   The height of a structure shall be measured vertically from the average elevation of the surface of the ground covered by the structure to the highest point of the structure; provided, however, the provisions of this section shall not apply to the height of any structure necessary for public safety or as required by any law or regulation of the state or an agency thereof.
   B.   Penthouses or roof structures for the housing of elevators, stairways, tanks, ventilating fans, air conditioning equipment or similar equipment required to operate and maintain buildings, and fire and parapet walls, skylights, towers, spires, cupolas, road signs (where permitted), flagpoles, chimneys, smokestacks, television and radio masts, or similar structures, may be erected above the height limit but shall not be allowed for the purpose of providing additional floor space. Satellite television antenna height limitations are in accordance with the provisions of section 10-13-5 of this title. (Ord. 692, 6-17-1986)
