Members of the Council and the Mayor shall be entitled to financial compensation from the City while they hold such offices. The amounts shall be payable in 12 equal monthly installments. The Council may change the annual rate of compensation with the affirmative vote of not less than four members of the Council at a regularly called meeting held prior any General Municipal election. No change in the annual rate of compensation shall take effect until the January 1 immediately following a General Municipal Election. The rate of annual compensation paid to the Councilors and the Mayor at the time this charter becomes effective shall be continued until the Council changes the annual compensation under the provisions of this charter. An ordinance or resolution adopted by the Council prior to the effective date of this Charter establishing an Officers Compensation Commission is repealed.
The Council may provide for further payment to members of the Council as reimbursement for reasonable and necessary expenses incurred while conducting the business of the City.
