(a) Structurally sound handrails shall be provided on any steps containing four risers or more. Porches, patios and/or balconies located more than three feet higher than the adjacent area shall have structurally sound protective guardrails or handrails. Porches and/or balcony handrails shall have balusters no more than six inches apart and shall be constructed in an approved manner.
(b) No handrail shall be less than thirty inches vertically above the nose of the stair tread or less than forty-two inches above stairway platforms.
