§ 33.035 RESPONSIBILITY OF POLICE OFFICERS GENERALLY.
   In addition to the duties specifically assigned under this subchapter, each police officer of the town shall:
   (A)   Obey implicitly the order of his or her superior officers;
   (B)   Protect public property;
   (C)   Protect persons and private property;
   (D)   Prevent violence;
   (E)   Prevent scandalous or obscene behavior in public places;
   (F)   Patrol, while on duty, the roads and other places of the town to which he or she is assigned, acquaint himself or herself with the people by sight and names and as far as possible with their place of residence and business, and the public or private resort which they commonly frequent, and otherwise familiarize himself or herself with his or her district;
   (G)   Take possession of all lost property found on the road or in other public places and deliver it to the police station;
   (H)   Treat politely and courteously all persons who ask for information or assistance, answering promptly, if possible, all proper questions and rendering proper aid to persons requiring it; to give special protection to children or helpless or feeble persons; to obligingly give his or her name and number to any person who asks for it;
   (I)   Examine at night storehouses and properties in the town, to make sure they are properly closed, and if not, to notify the owner or responsible person;
   (J)   Notify maintenance division of places where there are loose telephone or electric wires, broken pavement, or dangerous places in the street;
   (K)   When off duty, conduct himself or herself in an orderly and respectful manner, responding promptly to any call for assistance from another member of the Department;
   (L)   Will be held strictly accountable for car and its equipment entrusted to his or her care. He or she will allow no one to use or be in the car under any circumstance without authority of the Chief of Police or Police Commissioner. All damages to the car or equipment will be immediately reported in writing to the Chief upon appropriate forms;
   (M)   Not to drink any intoxicants while on duty, or in uniform, or at any time in such a manner or to such an extent as to make him or her unfit for duty on emergency;
   (N)   Not to demand any special discounts from merchants, free entrance to places of amusement, except in the discharge of duty, or any special privilege or exemption on account of his or her position as police officer;
   (O)   Not to engage in any business or occupation, apart from his or her duties as police officer, which would require his or her time and attention to such an extent that it would interfere with his or her duty as police officer or materially affect his or her ability to perform his or her duty as a police officer; and
   (P)   Not to engage in electioneering, or take any part in political campaign, or attempt to influence the results of national, state, county, or city elections, except by exercising his or her rights as a citizen to hold his or her own political views and to cast his or her vote.
