290.01 SUBSTITUTE MAYOR'S COURT MAGISTRATE.
   (a)   The Mayor is hereby authorized and empowered to employ a substitute Magistrate for the Mayor's Court of Put-in-Bay, from time to time, as required for the following purposes:
      (1)   To provide substitute Magistrate services to the Village when the regular Magistrate is unavailable to provide such services due to various factors, including, but not limited to, illness, emergencies, conflicts, or scheduling difficulties of the regular Magistrate, as may occur from time to time.
   (b)   The substitute Magistrate shall be compensated for his or her services at the weekly rate of pay of the regular Magistrate being replaced, and the amount paid to the substitute Magistrate will be deducted from the regular annual salary of the Magistrate.
   (c)   (1)   The substitute Magistrate appointed by the Mayor shall be admitted to the practice of law in Ohio for a total of at least three years preceding his or her appointment or commencement of service as a Magistrate, and has been engaged in the practice of law in this State or served as a Judge of a court of record in any jurisdiction in the United States, or both.
      (2)   Additionally, the substitute Magistrate shall have a current certificate evidencing that they are in compliance with all educational requirements prescribed by the Ohio Supreme Court for them to be able to hear and determine all prosecutions and criminal cases in the Mayor's Court that are within the jurisdiction of the Mayor's Court as set forth in Ohio R.C. 1905.01.
