All municipal courts and those lawfully acting as judges thereof shall try and determine all cases involving any violation or this chapter occurring within the limits of the municipality where the penalties do not exceed a fine of $200 or imprisonment of 30 days and the courts and judges that the municipality shall have are hereby vested with jurisdiction over such criminal cases, with the right and duty of sending such cases, occurring within the municipal limits but beyond their jurisdiction to try, to the higher courts. Any persons convicted hereunder in municipal courts shall be treated as municipal prisoners.
