For the purpose of this title, certain terms are herewith defined. When not inconsistent with the content, words used in the present tense include the future; words in the singular include the plural; words in the plural include the singular; the word "persons" may be taken for persons, association, firm, co- partnership or corporation; the word "structure" includes building; the word "occupied" includes premises designed or intended to be occupied; the word "used" includes designed or intended to be used; the word "shall" is always mandatory; the word "may" is permissive; and the word "should" is a preferred requirement. The word "lot" includes plot, parcel, and tract; the word "airport" includes such common terms as aviation field, airfield, intermediate landing field, landing area, landing field, airstrip, and landing strip.
