6-1-2: LOCAL RESTRICTIONS ON CERTAIN STREETS:
   A.   Weight Restrictions: It is unlawful for any person to operate any vehicle with a gross weight in excess of the amounts specified when signs are erected, by authority of the City Council, giving notice thereof.
   B.   Loaded Trucks Prohibited From Using Posted City Roads: When so posted during the spring breakup, loaded trucks are prohibited from using posted City streets. For the purposes of this section, a "truck" is defined as any vehicle with a GVWR of twenty six thousand (26,000) pounds or greater and is licensed with a commercial truck license plate or any vehicle that requires a commercial driver's license to legally operate. A "loaded truck" is defined as any vehicle with a GVWR of twenty six thousand (26,000) pounds or greater that is loaded with any cargo for which it was designed to carry. Empty trucks shall be allowed on posted City streets, but their speed shall be no greater than ten (10) miles per hour. The Public Works Department may issue specific weight exemptions for loaded trucks. Such exemptions shall be on a case by case basis and shall not confer a continuing right to move loaded trucks on posted City streets. Such exemptions shall be based on the expected temperature and street conditions at the time of exemption, and such exemption shall be for weight only and shall not exempt speed restrictions. The City Police Department shall be notified of all such specific exemptions. Local deliveries of home heating fuel, school supplies, critical healthcare supplies, restaurant and merchant supplies, and public service and utility vehicles are exempt from the weight restrictions imposed when streets are so posted but are not exempt from the speed restrictions imposed when streets are so posted. School buses are exempt from the weight restrictions and speed restrictions imposed when streets are so posted when traveling on designated school bus routes.
   C.   Certain Vehicles On Heavily Traveled Streets: The City Council is authorized to determine and designate those heavily traveled streets upon which motor driven cycles, bicycles or other nonmotorized traffic shall be prohibited, and shall erect appropriate signs giving notice thereof. When such signs are so erected, it is unlawful for any person to disobey the restrictions stated on such signs.
   D.   Special Purpose Vehicles: Special purpose vehicles, such as tow trucks, dump trucks, truck trailers and construction equipment, are not permitted in residential areas unless being used for their intended purpose. (Ord. 594, 3-5-2018)
