(a) Any person or entity, before engaging in work requiring a permit as a registered contractor, shall submit an application for such registration to the City Engineering Department on a form prescribed therefor, pay the nonrefundable fee and comply with all registration requirements required by this chapter. The Engineering Department shall review and process the application within a reasonable time and in accordance with the rules, regulations and procedures established by the City Engineering Department.
(b) The continued validity or renewal of a building contractor registration is dependent upon the continued maintenance of all the following:
(1) Proof of current and valid liability insurance coverage for up to three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000.00);
(2) A bond of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000.00) in favor of and in form acceptable to the City of Portsmouth, which shall be required only if the contractor is contracted to perform work by or intends to perform work on property owned by the City of Portsmouth.
(3) State of Ohio workers compensation coverage, if applicable; and
(4) An acccount in good standing with the City income tax division.
(c) The initial registration and annual renewal fee required under this chapter shall be one hundred dollars ($100.00). If applying for more than one registration, each subsequent registration shall be fifty dollars ($50.00). All fees shall be payable to the Engineering Department as provided by this chapter.
