The police officers must be residents of the city and each police officer so appointed shall give a bond payable to the city in the sum of $1,000 conditioned that he or she will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties required by law, and will promptly pay over to the party entitled to receive it all monies that may come into his or her hands during his or her term of office.
