From and after the date of the adoption of this Charter, the persons then filling elective offices which are retained under this Charter will continue to fill those offices for the terms to which they were elected. The two Commissioners presently filling elective offices shall be designated as Commissioner No. 1 and Commissioner No. 2. The Mayor and such Commissioners then in office shall, within twenty (20) days after the date of the adoption of this Charter by majority vote, appoint two Commissioners, possessing the qualifications prescribed by this Charter to be designated by such Commission, as Commissioner No. 3 and Commission No. 4, respectively, who shall hold such offices until the first regular City election after the adoption of this Charter. At such first regular election two Commissioners, Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, shall be elected and shall serve for a term of one year. Thereafter, the City Commission shall be elected as provided in Section 4.05 of this Charter. Persons, who on the date this Charter is adopted are filling appointive positions with the City of Port Isabel which are retained under this Charter, may continue to fill these positions for the term for which they were appointed.
