§ 96.37 CONSTRUCTION REQUIRED WITHIN FIRE ZONE LIMITS.
   (A)   Fire Zone Number One.
      (1)   No building or structure of wooden, ironclad (whether on wood or metal supports), stucco or veneer type construction, or any building whose walls contain wood supports shall be permitted except as indicated in § 96.39. No building shall hereafter be built, enlarged or altered except in accordance with this subchapter.
      (2)   The thickness of walls shall not be less than given below:
         (a)   Brick bearing walls shall not be less than 12-inches thick, except that small one story buildings with a floor area of 750 square feet or less may have walls eight-inches thick; and
         (b)   Reinforced concrete walls shall be in no case less than eight-inches thick.
      (3)   Hollow building tile or blocks, of either clay or cement product may be used as filler or curtain walls, provided the walls be supported or reinforced concrete beams, footings and/or foundations, and by adequate reinforced concrete columns, spaced not more than 16 feet apart; walls to be not less than 12-inches thick. Small one story buildings of less than 500 square feet floor area, may have eight-inch hollow tile walls.
      (4)   Hollow building tile or blocks, of either clay or cement product may be used as filler or curtain walls, provided the walls be supported or reinforced concrete beams, footings and/or foundations, and by adequate reinforced concrete columns, spaced not more than 16 feet apart; walls to be not less than 12-inches thick. Small one story buildings of less than 500 square feet floor area, may have eight-inch hollow tile walls.
      (5)   Hollow building tile or blocks, of either clay or cement product, may be used as filler or curtain walls, provided the walls be supported on reinforced concrete foundations, and by adequately designed structural steel columns and beams, to carry building loads. Columns shall be spaced not more than l6 feet apart and securely anchored to foundations. Walls shall not be less than 12-inches thick. Where structural steel frame is used, all structural steel shall be fireproofed for a four-hour rating in accordance with the National Fire Code, as published by the National Fire Protection Association.
      (6)   Solid stone walls shall be four inches thicker than brick walls or like construction.
      (7)   All exterior walls, party walls and division fire walls, shall have parapets extending at least 18 inches above the roof line, and the parapets shall be at least 12-inches thick, except where eight-inch walls are permitted as above, in which case parapets may be eight inches thick,
   (B)   Fire Zone Number Two. No building shall hereafter be built, enlarged or altered, except in accordance with this subchapter.
      (1)   For all stores, shops, commercial and/or industrial buildings, hotels, motels and the like, where the public is invited, where the building lines come closer than four feet to either or both of the side property lines, the wall thickness shall not be less than given below:
         (a)   Brick bearing walls shall not be less than 12-inches thick, except that one story buildings, with properly designed buttresses of brick, spaced not more than 14 feet apart and of a minimum thickness of 12 inches, may have eight-inch walls, providing that all roof loads are introduced in the wall line at the centers of the buttresses; and
         (b)   Brick curtain or filler type walls shall not be less than eight-inches thick, and shall be provided with a designed structural frame of reinforced concrete foundations, columns and header or tie beams.
      (2)   Reinforced concrete walls shall not be less than six-inches thick.
      (3)   Hollow building tile or blocks of either clay or cement product, may be used as bearing walls for small one story buildings of not more than 750 square feet floor area, providing that the roof beams are horizontal; and with walls not less than eight-inches thick.
      (4)   Hollow building tile or blocks of either clay or cement product, may be used as curtain or filler walls, provided that the walls be supported on reinforced, concrete beams and/or footings, and by adequate reinforced concrete columns and tie or header beams. Concrete columns shall not be spaced more than 16 feet apart. Walls shall not be less than eight-inches thick.
      (5)   Brick, hollow building tile or block of either clay or cement product, may be used as filler or curtain type walls, provided the walls be supported on reinforced concrete foundations, and by adequate structural steel columns and beams, designed to carry building loads. Where structural steel frame is used, all structural steel shall be fireproofed for a two hour rating in accordance with the National Fire Codes, as published by the National Fire Protection Association.
      (6)   Solid stone walls shall be four inches thicker than brick walls of like construction.
      (7)   All exterior walls, party walls and division fire walls, shall have parapets extending at least 12 inches above the roof line and the parapets shall be at least eight-inches thick.
      (8)   All residences of masonry and/or concrete wall design, where residence does not incorporate the parapet walls in its design, shall have a minimum side clearance to the side property line of three feet on both sides. This clearance shall be measured from either the building line or the roof eave line, using the one closest to the side property line.
      (9)   All residences of wood frame, veneer, stucco or veneer type construction, and buildings whose walls contain wood supports shall have a minimum side clearance distance of five feet on both sides to the side property lines. This clearance shall be measured from either the building line or the roof eave line, using the one that is closest to the side property line.
      (10)   All commercial and/or industrial buildings or structures of wooden, ironclad or asbestos product (whether on wood or metal supports) shall have a minimum side clearance distance of six feet to the side property lines. This clearance shall be measured from either the building line or the roof eave line, using the one closest to the side property line.
