9-1-1: SIDEWALK MAINTENANCE, CONSTRUCTION 1 :
   A.   Maintenance By Abutting Property Owner: The owner or other person in charge of real property which adjoins a sidewalk or sidewalk area shall keep the adjoining sidewalk or sidewalk area in good condition and safe for pedestrian use; and it shall be unlawful for such owner or person in charge to fail to do so. (1980 Code § 30-59)
   B.   Failure To Construct, Nuisance: Any place upon or over which there has been regularly ordered a sidewalk to be constructed, and such order shall not have been complied with within thirty (30) days thereafter, is hereby defined and declared to be a public nuisance, and the owner or occupant of the adjoining premises shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.    C.   Damage Prohibited: Any person who shall, without obtaining necessary permits, remove any portion of any sidewalk, or any support from any sidewalk or crossing, or loosen or remove any plank, stringer or other support from any culvert or bridge shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. (1980 Code § 30-61; amd. 2003 Code)
   D.   Gratings Closed: Any person who shall leave open any cellar door or grating, or any other cover or door on any street, thoroughfare or sidewalk in the city, or shall suffer any such door or grating belonging to the premises occupied or owned by him to be in an insecure condition, whereby persons may be in danger of falling into such cellar or other place, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.    E.   Obstructions: Any person who shall suspend or erect any awning, sign, sign base, or any other fixture or structure which extends over or upon any sidewalk, without first obtaining the necessary permit, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. (1980 Code § 30-63; amd. 2003 Code)
