§ 10.08 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   CITY, MUNICIPAL CORPORATION or MUNICIPALITY. The City of Polo, Illinois, irrespective of its population or legal classification.
   CONVICTION. A judgment of conviction or sentence entered upon a plea of guilty or upon a verdict or finding of guilty of an offense, rendered by a legally constituted jury or by a court of competent jurisdiction authorized to try the case without a jury.
   COUNCIL. The City Council of the City of Polo.
   COUNTY. Ogle County, Illinois.
   DEFENDANT. A person charged with an offense.
   JUDGMENT. A adjudication by the court that the defendant is guilty or not guilty, and if the adjudication is that the defendant is guilty, it includes the sentence pronounced by the court.
   MONTH. A calendar month.
   OFFENSE. Conduct for which a sentence to a term of imprisonment or to a fine is provided by this code.
   OWNER. When applied to a building or land shall include any part owner, joint owner, tenant in common, tenant in partnership, joint tenant of the whole or a part of such building or land, either alone or with others.
   PERSON and its derivatives and WHOEVER. A natural person, partnership or a corporate body or any body of persons corporate or incorporate.
   PERSONAL PROPERTY. Includes every type of property, except real property.
   PROPERTY. Includes real and personal property.
   REAL PROPERTY. Includes lands, tenements and hereditaments and shall embrace all chattels real.
   SENTENCE. The disposition imposed by the court on a convicted defendant.
   SHALL. The act referred to is mandatory.
   SIDEWALK. That portion of a street between the curb lines of the lateral lines of a roadway and the adjacent property lines intended for the use of pedestrians (except as provided in the traffic code).
   STATE. The State of Illinois.
   STREET. The entire width between property lines of every way or place of whatever nature when any part thereof is open to the use of the public, as a matter of right (except as provided in the traffic code).
   SUBCHAPTER. A division of a chapter, designated in this code by a heading in the chapter analysis and a capitalized heading in the body of the chapter, setting apart a group of sections related by the subject matter of the heading. Not all chapters have subchapters.
   SUPERVISION. A disposition of conditional or revocable release without probationary supervision, but under such conditions and reporting requirements as are imposed by the court, at the successful conclusion of which disposition of defendant is discharged and a judgement dismissing the charges is entered.
   WHOLESALER or WHOLESALE DEALER. Relating to the sale of goods, merchandise articles or things in quantity to persons who purchase for the purpose of resale, as distinguished from a retail dealer who sells in smaller quantities direct to the consumer (unless otherwise specifically defined).
   WRITTEN and IN WRITING. Includes printing.
