(a) The intent of this chapter is to benefit the Village in the following ways:
(1) Promote the public health and safety of the residents.
(2) Preserve the aesthetic appearance of the Village.
(3) Protect vegetation in the Village, including its planting, pruning, maintenance and removal.
(4) Provide for the regulation and preservation of public street trees and park trees by the Village Tree Commissioner, under the authority of the Architectural Review Board, hereinafter called the Board.
(5) Make ongoing efforts to obtain Tree City, USA status.
(b) The Tree Commissioner shall be responsible, along with other members of the Board or other qualified arborists or naturalists, for conducting an annual tree inventory of all street trees on State Routes 224, 170 and 616, Riverside Drive, College Street, Cortland and other areas of importance within the Village limits. This inventory shall include the location, caliper or approximate age, and species, of each tree, and the status of each tree's condition.
