§ 32.022  COMPOSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF OFFICERS; COMPENSATION.
   (A)   Officers.
      (1)   There is hereby created within the Fire Department the following positions and respective order of command and responsibility:
         (a)   A Fire Chief who shall be the head of both the Fire Department and the Ambulance Division of the Fire Department;
         (b)   Up to three Assistant Chiefs who shall be second in command of the Fire Department and the Ambulance Division;
         (c)   Up to three Captains who shall be third in command of the Fire Department and the Ambulance Division; and
         (d)   Up to three Lieutenants who shall be fourth in command of the Fire Department and the Ambulance Division.
      (2)   Each of the above positions and any vacancy occurring therein shall be filled by appointment by the Mayor upon recommendation of the Fire Chief. Each appointment shall be approved and confirmed by a majority vote of the members of Council.
      (3)   The incumbent of each of the above positions shall be paid an annual salary from the operation and maintenance of funds of the Fire Department and Ambulance Division, on a pro rata basis, in accordance with the pay ordinance then in effect. Payments shall be made in equal monthly installments.
   (B)   Firefighters/emergency medical technicians, drivers and dispatchers. Firefighters/emergency medical technicians, firefighters/paramedics, drivers and dispatchers responding to calls shall be members of the Village Fire Department. Members of the Department may be volunteers or paid part- time village employees. Job descriptions for each position shall be maintained by the Fire Chief.
   (C)   Compensation.
      (1)   Members of the Fire Department who meet the qualifications set forth by Council may perform services in both the Fire and Ambulance Divisions, but shall be paid at the rate prescribed by the ordinance for the division in which the services are performed.
      (2)   Firefighters/emergency medical technicians, firefighters/paramedics, drivers and dispatchers shall be compensated as provided, in accordance with the pay ordinance then in effect by Council, payable from the Ambulance Operation and Maintenance Fund.
      (3)   The compensation of volunteer firefighters shall be determined, from time to time, by Council, and shall be payable monthly from the Fire Operation and Maintenance Fund. The compensation of firefighter/EMT's who work scheduled part-time shifts shall be determined, from time to time, by Council, and shall be payable from the respective departments Operations and Maintenance Fund on a bi-weekly basis.
