It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or a corporation to lay, construct, install or do or cause to be laid, constructed, installed or done, any electrical wiring or apparatus unless said person, firm or corporation shall have complied with the provisions of this chapter and be licensed by the state; provided, however a person may do his or her own work on property belonging to him or her without obtaining a license.
