There shall be appointed by the Mayor, with Council consent, at the first regular meeting of May of each year, or at such times when a successor is needed, a Building Inspector, who shall perform those duties herein set forth. The term for the Building Inspector shall be for one year or until such time as his or her successor is appointed. Nothing in this section shall be deemed to prohibit any officer of the city from being appointed Building Inspector. The City Council may appoint any number of Assistant Building Inspectors that said Council may deem necessary to carry out the duties of the office of Building Inspector.
