(A) All appointed officers and employees of the city shall be entitled to ten days of sick leave with pay per fiscal year and may accumulate up to 150 sick days. All employee sick leave shall be prorated on a monthly basis during the first and last year of employment.
(B) Upon retirement or termination of employment all appointed officers and employees shall be paid half their accumulated, unused sick leave, at his or her then-current rate of pay.
(C) Any department head or supervisor may require an employee to present a slip from a licensed physician indicating the employee has been under the physician's care and is able to return to work. In the event the employee fails to provide the statement, the department head or supervisor may refuse to permit the employee to return to work and the absence shall be treated as unexcused. In that event, the employee shall be ineligible for sick leave pay for the absence.
