6-1-3: HIRING STANDARDS; PROBATION; TRAINING:
   A.   Hiring Standards: Any person of good character who meets the qualifications and standards for being a police officer as prescribed by state statute, village ordinance and rules of the department as prescribed from time to time by the village manager, chief of police or board of trustees may be employed as a police officer for the village. No applicant for a position with the police department of the village shall be excluded by reason of race, creed, color, religion, sex, station in life, national origin, age, disability, familial status or sexual orientation. The police department shall be an equal opportunity employer and, as such, shall comply with applicable state and federal statutes and regulations pertaining to employment practices.    B.   Probationary Period: All persons employed as police officers shall be probationary employees for a period of one year from the date of their employment. The probationary period may be extended up to an additional one hundred eighty (180) days at the discretion of the chief of police. A police officer may be discharged without cause during said probationary period. Thereafter, a police officer, other than the chief of police, may be discharged in accordance with section 6-1-10 of this chapter.
   C.   Training For Part Time Officers: Any police officers other than those officers who shall be employed on a full time basis shall be qualified to enter and successfully complete any training mandated by the Illinois law enforcement training standards board. (Ord. 2007-42, 2-5-2007)
