§ 117.02 DEFINITIONS.
   The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
   MASSAGE AND BODYWORK THERAPIST. Any person, whether male or female, who is engaged in the practice of massage and bodywork therapy and who has graduated from a state approved institute school of massage therapy and licensed under the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy licensing requirements.
   MASSAGE AND BODYWORK THERAPY. Systems of activity applied to the soft tissues of the human body for therapeutic, educational, or relaxation purposes. The application may include:
      (1)   Pressure, friction, stroking, rocking, kneading, percussion or passive or active stretching within the normal anatomical range of movement;
      (2)   Complementary methods, including the external application of water, heat, cold, lubricants, and other topical preparations; or
      (3)   The use of mechanical devices that mimic or enhance actions that may possibly be done by the hands.
   MASSAGE AND BODYWORK THERAPY ESTABLISHMENT. Any business or establishment wherein massage and bodywork therapy is performed solely by licensed massage and bodywork therapists.
   PRIVATE PARTS. The penis, scrotum, mons veneris, vulva or vaginal area and rectal area.
