§ 36.46 MEMBERSHIP; QUALIFICATIONS.
   (A)   The number of auxiliary police force members shall not exceed eight but the number of members of the force may be increased or decreased as the City Council may deem wise and proper.
   (B)   The auxiliary police force shall be composed of citizens and residents of the city, who volunteer their services to the city for the purpose of composing and formulating an organization of this type, and for the purpose of performing special duties within the city as determined by the City Council and the Chief of Police, and in times of emergencies to assist and aid the regular Police Department when called upon.
   (C)   Each member must be over 21 years of age, able to read and write and understand the English language, and no person shall be accepted as a member of the auxiliary police force unless he or she is a person of sobriety; has been, and is, an orderly law-abiding citizen; is not over 55 years of age at the time of acceptance as a member; and has not been convicted of a felony.
   (D)   Every person who volunteers for the auxiliary police force shall, before being accepted, file a certificate from a reputable physician, which shall certify that the person who volunteers for such service to the city is in sound physical condition. The physical examination shall be paid for by the city.
   (E)   Persons who are desirous of joining the auxiliary police force may do so by applying to the Auxiliary Police Force Committee, composed of the Chief of Police, members of the Safety Committee, and the Chairperson of the Finance Committee, who shall pass on the qualifications of such prospective members.
