§ 70.40 AMBULANCES, POLICE CARS, AND FIRE TRUCKS.
   The drivers of all ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks shall, at all times in the operation of such cars and trucks, exercise care and diligence to prevent accident and injury, but shall not be subject to the provision of this traffic code as to speed and right-of-way, when responding to emergency or official calls. All ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks, when responding to emergency or official calls, shall have the right-of-way over all other vehicles. It shall be the duty of the drivers of all other vehicles of said village, upon the approach of an ambulance, police car, or fire truck to drive their cars as close as possible to the right-hand curb and stop, and remain there until such ambulance, police car, or fire truck has passed. No vehicle in said village, except by specific direction by the Chief of the Fire Department or his or her assistant, shall follow or park closer than 500 feet to a fire or to a fire apparatus responding to a fire call.
