§ 158.40 INTRODUCTION AND MISSION STATEMENT.
   (A)   Introduction. These guidelines were created by Historic Preservation Committee, which is a body of five people, appointed by the Mayor, to protect the historic architecture in the City of Peru.
      (1)   The Historic Preservation Committee meets this goal in several ways:
         (a)   Educates the public about the importance of historic buildings and preserving them.
         (b)   Acts as a resource to building owners who would like to make improvements to their buildings.
         (c)   Creates local historic districts with attached design guidelines to preserve the historic character of the downtown and residential areas.
      (2)   When the city’s historic buildings were built, basic design principles (such as texture, color, rhythm, and pattern) were used to make the commercial areas and residential neighborhoods a cohesive, yet unique, place to live, work and play.
      (3)   These Design Guidelines will follow the same design principles, and aid those rehabilitating historic buildings and constructing new buildings by identifying desirable aesthetic qualities for Downtown Peru.
   (B)   Mission Statement of the Peru Historic Preservation Committee.
      (1)   Preserve historic structures, architecture, streetscapes and neighborhoods.
      (2)   Promote the adaptive reuse of the surrounding environment through planning, preservation and education.
      (3)   To recognize preservation efforts to encourage community support in ongoing historic preservation endeavors.
