(A) There is hereby created a City Building and Zoning Department, which Department shall consist of a Building Commissioner, to be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Common Council, and other inspectors and employees as the Common Council may designate from time to time. It shall also include such employees as are needed to perform the functions specified by ordinance or statute as functions of the Zoning Administrator. Employee(s) performing zoning functions shall be interviewed by the Building Commissioner and Chairman of the Peru Plan Commission, with hiring and dismissal approved by a majority vote of the Plan Commission, in compliance with IC 36-7-4-402 or any successor statute.
(B) The Building and Zoning Department shall perform all inspections required or provided by this code and any other applicable codes enacted by the city, within the corporate boundaries of the City of Peru and the planning and zoning jurisdiction located outside its corporate limits.
(C) The Building Commissioner may detail the members of the Building and Zoning Department as inspectors, as shall from time to time be necessary. The Building Commissioner shall recommend to the Board of Public Works and Safety the employment of technical inspectors.
