On occasion, the city may require overtime for nonexempt civil city employees. Although situations may arise that will prevent someone from working overtime, we do expect all of our nonexempt employees to be available to work overtime and a flexible schedule when it is necessary.
(A) Civil city employees (nonexempt). Civil city nonexempt employees will be paid overtime at one-and-one-half times their regular hourly rate for all hours worked over 40 hours per week. Paid time off and holidays are not included in the calculation of overtime pay.
(B) Firefighters (nonexempt). All nonexempt Firefighters shall be compensated at the employee’s regular rate of pay until the total hours worked in a designated 28-day period exceeds 212 hours. All hours worked in excess of 212 hours in a designated 28-day period shall be paid at one and one-half times the employee’s regular rate. Only hours actually worked count toward the calculation of overtime.
(C) Police (nonexempt).
(1) All nonexempt police officers shall be compensated at the employee’s regular rate of pay until the total hours worked in a designated bi-weekly pay period equals 80 hours. All hours worked in excess of 80 hours in a designated bi-weekly pay period shall be paid at one and one-half times the employee’s regular rate. Only hours actually worked count toward the calculation of overtime.
(2) Non-exempt police officers will be allowed to accumulate 60 hours of comp time. After the 60-hour limit is reached, cash compensation may be ordered by the Chief of Police at his or her discretion. Each member shall provide all necessary information and detail to verify their overtime claimed.
