§ 33.080 BEREAVEMENT LEAVE.
   (A)   The city will provide employees with up to three paid days off upon the death of an immediate family member (spouse, parents, domestic partner, child, grandparent, sister, brother, grandchild, an immediate step-relative, an immediate in-law, a domestic partner’s immediate relative, or any legal dependent living with the employee). Due to their work schedule, the Fire Department will receive one paid day upon the death of an immediate family member.
   (B)   The city will provide one paid day off upon the death of non-immediate family members (aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or non-immediate step-relative) and one-half day to attend a funeral of a fellow employee (normally departmental). Due to their work schedule, the Fire Department will receive 12 hours of paid bereavement leave.
   (C)   The bereavement leave policy is designed to reimburse employees for work days lost. As such, it does not apply if the employee is on any other type of leave. Employees should notify a member of management as soon as possible if the need for bereavement leave arises.
