270.01 POLITICAL ACTIVITY OF CLASSIFIED CIVIL SERVANTS.
   (a)   Except as expressly permitted in subsection (b) hereof, no officer or employee in the classified civil service of the City of Perrysburg shall directly or indirectly, orally or by letter, solicit or receive, or be in any manner concerned with soliciting or receiving any assessment, subscription, or contribution for any political party or for any candidate for public office, nor shall any person solicit directly or indirectly, orally or by letter, or be in any manner concerned in soliciting any such assessment, contribution, or payment from any officer or employee in the classified civil service of the City of Perrysburg, nor shall any officer or employee in the classified civil service of the City of Perrysburg be an officer in any political organization or take part in politics, other than to vote as the officer or employee pleases and to express freely political opinions.
   (b)   Nothing in subsection (a) hereof shall prohibit an officer or employee in the classified civil service of the City of Perrysburg from engaging in the following permitted political activities:
      (1)   Becoming a candidate for public office in a partisan or non-partisan non- municipal election;
      (2)   Filing petitions meeting statutory requirements for partisan or non-partisan election to a non-municipal public office;
      (3)   Circulating official nominating petitions for his or her candidacy to a partisan or non-partisan elective non-municipal public office;
      (4)   Campaigning by writing for publications, by distributing political material, or by writing or making speeches on behalf of his or her candidacy for a partisan or non-partisan elective non-municipal public office.
      (5)   Soliciting, either directly or indirectly, any assessment, contribution or subscription, either monetary or in kind, for his or her candidacy for a partisan or non-partisan elective non-municipal office; provided, however, that no such assessment, contribution or subscription may be solicited from a member of the classified civil service of the City of Perrysburg.
   (c)   If a classified civil service employee is elected to public office, the employee’s employment with the City shall terminate immediately once the employee commences his or her term in the elective public office.
   (d)   As used in this chapter, “non-municipal office” shall mean an office other than with the City of Perrysburg. No classified civil service employee of the City of Perrysburg is permitted by this section to engage in any activities described in subsection (b) hereof in connection with an elective public office of the City of Perrysburg.
