The following prohibited wastes shall not be introduced into the wastewater treatment works so as to interfere with the operation or performance of the works:
(a) Wastes that create a fire or explosion hazard in the wastewater treatment works;
(b) Wastes that will cause corrosive structural damage to the wastewater treatment works, but in no case wastes with a pH lower than 5.0;
(c) Solid or viscous wastes in amounts which would cause obstruction to the flow in sewers, or other interference with the proper operation of the wastewater treatment works;
(d) Slug discharges; and
(e) Pollutants, including heavy metals, toxic wastes and wastes that are generally not amenable to treatment, or are detrimental to the treatment process. Such pollutants may be subject to pretreatment to comply with limitations established by the City or may be subject to prohibition.
Wastes exceeding the following normal concentrations are prohibited:
(1) Arsenic 0.16 mg/l
(2) Cadmium 0.06 mg/l
(3) Chromium 23.20 mg/l
(4) Copper 2.36 mg/l
(5) Cyanide 2.70 mg/l
(6) Lead 0.94 mg/l
(7) Mercury 65 ng/(l)
(8) Molybdenum 0.14 mg/l
(9) Nickel 1.81 mg/l
(10) Selenium 0.37 mg/l
(11) Silver 1.06 mg/l
(12) Zinc 5.90 mg/l
Applicable concentrations shall be based upon average concentrations, weighted in proportion to volume of flow. (Ord. 156-97. Passed 10-21-97; Ord. 176-2012. Passed 11-20-12.)
(f) In the event of an occurrence of a dangerous situation as a result of materials being dumped into sanitary sewers, the Service-Safety Director or his or her authorized agent shall determine if evacuation of the area is necessary and act accordingly.
