(a) Whenever any animal has bitten any person, the Chief of Police shall order such animal quarantined in the Cuyahoga County Dog Kennels or in a veterinarian's kennels for a period extending not longer than ten days from the date of the biting. Any person who is the owner or has custody or possession of such animal who fails to cause such animal to be quarantined in conformity with such order shall be deemed to be in violation of this section.
(b) Any owner of any animal known to have or suspected of having rabies or having been exposed to rabies, shall immediately notify the Chief of Police of such fact and immediately surrender such animal to any health officer or police officer upon demand of such officer. No owner knowing or suspecting that an animal has rabies shall allow such animal to be taken off his or her premises without the permission of a health officer or police officer. Any health or police officer, upon ascertaining that a dog is rabid, shall immediately remove the dog to the pound or summarily destroy it.

(c) Whoever violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree and shall be subject to the penalty provided in Section 698.02.
