202.02 GENERAL DEFINITIONS.
   As used in the Codified Ordinances, unless otherwise expressly provided or the context otherwise requires:
   (1)    "And" may be read "or," and "or" may be read "and," if the sense requires it.

   (2)    "Another," when used to designate the owner of property which is the subject of an offense, includes not only natural persons but also every other owner of property.

   (3)    "Bond" includes an undertaking.
      (ORC 1.02(D))
   (4)    "Council" means the legislative authority of the Municipality.
   (5)    "County" means Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
   (6)   “Imprisoned” means imprisoned in a county, multicounty, municipal, municipal- county or multicounty-municipal jail or workhouse, if the offense is a misdemeanor.

   (7)    "Keeper" or "proprietor" includes all persons, whether acting by themselves or as a servant, agent or employee.
   (8)    "Land" and "real estate" include rights and easements of an incorporeal nature.

   (9)    "May" is permissive.
   (10)    "Municipality" or "City" means the City of Pepper Pike, Ohio.
   (11)    "Oath" includes affirmation and "swear" includes affirm.

   (12)   "Of unsound mind" means the person lacks the relevant mental capacity.

   (13)    "Ohio R.C." or "ORC" means the Ohio Revised Code.
   (14)    "Owner," when applied to property, includes any part owner, joint owner or tenant in common of the whole or part of such property.
   (15)    "Person" includes an individual, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, partnership and association.

   (16)    “Personal property” includes all property except real property.
   (17)    "Plan of sewerage," "system of sewerage" and "sewer" mean sewers, sewage disposal works and treatment plants, and sewage pumping stations, together with facilities and appurtenances necessary and proper therefor.

   (18)    "Premises," as applied to property, includes land and buildings.
   (19)    "Property" includes real, personal and mixed estates and interests.
      (ORC 701.01(E))
   (20)    "Public authority" means boards of education, the Municipal, County, State or Federal Government, its officers or an agency thereof, or any duly authorized public official.
   (21)    "Public place" means any street, sidewalk, park, cemetery, school yard, body of water, watercourse, public conveyance or other place for the sale of merchandise, public accommodation or amusement.
   (22)    "Real property" includes lands, tenements and hereditaments.
   (23)    "Registered mail" includes certified mail, and "certified mail" includes registered mail.

   (24)    "Shall" is mandatory.
   (25)    "Sidewalk" means that portion of the street between the curb line and the adjacent property line intended for the use of pedestrians.
   (26)    "State" means the State of Ohio.
   (27)    "Street" includes alleys, avenues, boulevards, lanes, roads, highways, viaducts and all other public thoroughfares within the Municipality.
   (28)    "Tenant" or "occupant," as applied to premises, includes any person holding a written or oral lease, or who actually occupies the whole or any part of such premises, alone or with others.
   (29)    "Undertaking" includes a bond.

   (30)    "Week" means seven consecutive days.

   (31)    "Whoever" includes all persons, natural and artificial; partners; principals, agents and employees; and all officials, public or private.
      (ORC 1.02(A))
   (32)    “Written” or “in writing” includes any representation of words, letters, symbols or figures; this provision does not affect any law relating to signatures.

   (33)    “Year” means twelve consecutive months.
