§ 31.18 EXPULSION OF MEMBERS; ABSENCES.
   (A)   Generally. Any active member who fails to attend three consecutive meetings or drills or who fails to attend at least 5% of all the fires in a year shall be automatically expelled, unless the absence is caused by sickness. Time shall be figured from the day of the annual meeting. The names of members so expelled shall be read at the next meeting following their expulsion, and their names shall be dropped from the roll of the Fire Department.
   (B)   Leaves of absence. Leaves of absence may be granted by the Chief for reasons acceptable to the Chief.
   (C)   Expelled member. An expelled member shall return to the commanding officer of his or her company all Fire Department property in his or her care.
   (D)   Power of the Chief to excuse absences.
      (1)   The Chief shall have the power to excuse any member for absence from fires, meetings, or other places.
      (2)   The Chief shall report all excuses granted at the next regular meeting.
      (3)   Excuses from fires, regular meetings, adjourned meetings, or parade or funeral shall be actual sickness of a member or member’s family; absence from the village limits; or left in charge alone at the member’s place of business.
      (4)   No member shall be excused from registering after a fire, except by the Chief or Assistant Chief, and such excuses shall be stated to the Fire Department.
