9-3-3: STORAGE OF EXPLOSIVE, FLAMMABLE AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS:
The geographic limits referred to in certain sections of the 2006 international fire code are hereby established as follows:
   A.   Location Limits:
      1.   Cryogenic Fluids:
         a.   Stationary containers shall be located in accordance with section 2303.6. Containers of cryogenic fluids shall not be located within diked areas containing other hazardous materials.
         b.   Storage of flammable cryogenic fluids in stationary containers outside of buildings is prohibited within the limits established by law as the limits of districts in which such storage is prohibited.
         c.   Any storage and stationary containers are strictly prohibited unless storage is approved by the Illinois office of the state fire marshal and the village fire chief or his designated agent.
      2.   Aboveground Tanks:
         a.   Permitted Locations: Storage of class I and II liquids in aboveground tanks outside of buildings is prohibited within the limits established by law as the limits of districts in which such storage is prohibited, except upon appropriate approval by the village fire chief or his designated agent and the Illinois office of the state fire marshal.
         b.   Prohibited Locations: The storage of class I and II liquids in aboveground tanks is prohibited within the limits established by law as the limits of districts in which such storage is prohibited, except upon written approval by the Illinois office of the state fire marshal and the village fire chief or his designated agent.
   B.   Maximum Capacity Within Established Limits:
      1.   Within the limits established by law restricting the storage of liquefied petroleum gas for the protection of heavily populated or congested areas, the aggregate capacity of any one installation shall not exceed a water capacity of two thousand (2,000) gallons.
      2.   Any placement of such tanks is conditioned upon and subject to written approval by the Illinois office of the state fire marshal and the village fire chief or his designated agent.
      3.   In particular installations, this capacity limit shall be determined by the fire code official, after consideration of special features such as topographical conditions, nature of occupancy, proximity to buildings, capacity of proposed containers, degree of fire protection to be provided and capabilities of the local fire department.
